Geworfenheit (Thrownness)

2011‒2013, 25 slides, carousel projection

At the exhibition
An enlarged social horizon will bring advantages

with works by
Selma Doborac, Dejan Kaludjerović, Milan Mladenović and Ekaterina Shapiro-Obermair

The exhibition addresses the question of the other. It stands in opposition to Slavoj Žižek idea, which denies a fixed definition of the Balkan borders and constantly locates the other “somewhere different”. The artists claim that the other has already become an integral part of European cities and is appropriated as such. The potential for violence, which is projected in the other, is adopted as an identity conveying self-image or even used as a label.

For her slide projection work Ekaterina Shapiro -Obermair uses cutouts from Viennesse magazines of the 1950th. The idea behind is a trial to adapt a foreign past.
